Loving Proof – Day 20

“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” -John 15:12

We don’t know all the ways that Jesus expressed His love to His disciples or others around Him while He was on Earth, but we do know one very specific way that He expressed it to the whole world.  He laid down His life.  He died a very brutal death in order to satisfy justice.  Justice that he did not deserve, but we DID.

Are you willing to lay down your life for a friend?  That seems so drastic, doesn’t it?  Yet, that’s exactly what Jesus did for us, and He “commands” that we love one another as He loved us.  He displayed the “greater” love by taking our punishment for sin upon Himself.  By laying down His life for us, His friends (John 15:14).

If Jesus Chris is your friend, and the Lord of your life, you possess a greater love which is capable of more than you could imagine.  You may look at this verse and think, “I am just not capable of that kind of love.”, and you would be correct.  However, the One whose Spirit dwells in you IS capable.  You may never be called to actually lay down your life, but we are all called to love one another.  That happens in a myriad of ways.  Ask the Lord who and how today.  Never underestimate what the Love of God can do in you and through you.

Thank you! If we would open our hearts to the possibility of acts of kindness around us and act on one with the love of Christ from time to time what a world this could be.
