Crocheted pumpkin Coasters by LollyB Designs.

For the past several years I have been spending a lot of time with yarn and crochet hook in hand, creating all kinds of fun things.  For awhile I had an Etsy shop.  Then they turned from their initial concept and I left.  I then had a shop on Scott’s Marketplace.  They recently shutdown.  I also sold a few items at a consignment shop here in town called Hancrafts Unlimited.  Now, I am selling my items on a new site called Shop Handmade.  I’ve just started setting that up, but you can see it at http://www.shophandmade/store/lollybdesigns.

I get really excited over yarn and have a bit of a stash in my closet.  I used to think of crocheted and knit items as “old lady” stuff.  Recently, however, yarn crafts seem to be coming into a new era.  It’s not just afghans, sweaters, and scarves anymore.  I have made fun things like toys (called “amigurumi”), headbands/earwarmers, washcloths, and even baskets.  I’ve made an afghan that looks like a mermaid tail, crocheted market bags and clutch purses, cup cozies, and coasters that look like paw prints. I have collected patterns for entire kitchen sets, bath spa sets, and slippers made from flip-flops.  That’s just to name a few of the things you can make with yarn and a crochet hook!  It’s amazing!

I tried knitting, but for some reason, I can’t keep even tension on the yarn.  It’s probably the same reason I could never learn to water ski.  I’m just crooked.  I can’t keep even pressure on both sides of my body at the same time.  My daughter tells me it’s “hip” to crochet these days.  She says you can walk into a coffee shop and see young people wearing the crocheted items they created.  Some of them are even doing the actual crocheting while sipping on their espresso.  That’s kinda cool.  It makes me feel a little more relevant.  😉
